Levy County Mounted Posse
The posse is a group of volunteer individuals who are civic minded and who wish to serve their community. The Posse's main purpose is to assist the Sheriff in search and rescue missions and during times of natural disasters.
The Posse is called out for search and rescue when an individual is lost in the wilderness areas in Levy County. The Posse's duty is to forge through the underbrush searching all possible locations for the missing person. As a member, you can expect to blaze trails through brush so thick you can't see ten feet in front of you. The terrain can be sandy, prickly, marshy and wet depending on the search area. Our duty is to locate and return the victim to safety. Sometimes the conditions can be extremely trying. During times of natural disaster the Posse serves as traffic and crowd control protecting the sensitive and affected areas of the county.
- To be a member of the Posse the individual must meet certain requirements:

- 3. Be of good moral character.
- 4. Be a willing team player.
- 5. Be an average to above average horseman.
- 6. Pass the Sheriff's required background check.
- And the individual needs to have a horse that is in good health, with a negative coggins present at all times and a safe trailer to transport the horse. No stallions, please. The horse needs to be accustomed to:
- 1. Loading and hauling without trouble.
- 2. Standing tied.
- 3. Crossing water and streams.
- 4. Crossing through brush, over downed trees and obstacles.
