Captain Michael Sheffield began his career with the Levy County Jail in 1988 as a Corrections Officer One. During that period, the jail was located above the courthouse and the present jail was in its completion stage. A year later he was promoted to Corporal on the shift and served in that capacity for two years and later given the responsibility of the mail and property room. In June of 1994 he received his certification in law enforcement and was promoted to Sergeant and given the supervisory position over inmate transportation/classification at the jail. Captain Sheffield remained there until January 2001 at which time he was promoted to Chief of Security at the jail and given the rank of Lieutenant. In 2004, he was promoted to Captain and was given the job of Jail Administrator.
